What It Means

"Out for delivery" means the package has been loaded onto the final delivery vehicle and the DHL courier is actively running the delivery route that includes your stop. This is the last major status before 'Delivered.'

DHL's delivery window for packages marked 'Out for delivery' is typically within the same business day — morning scans usually mean afternoon delivery; afternoon scans may indicate an end-of-day delivery attempt. DHL often provides a more specific delivery window through their DHL On Demand Delivery (ODD) notifications if the receiver has enrolled in tracking alerts.

For DHL Express, the delivery attempt will occur once. If no one is home and a signature is required, DHL will leave a delivery notice and return the next business day (or redirect to a service point).

What To Do Next

  • 1Stay available at the delivery address or authorize release (if DHL ODD allows you to set delivery preferences)
  • 2If you need to redirect or change delivery time, use DHL On Demand Delivery while the package is still on the vehicle
  • 3For packages requiring signature, ensure someone is available to sign
  • 4If you won't be home, provide delivery instructions via DHL ODD (leave with neighbor, leave in a safe place, etc.) if your account settings allow it
