DHL "Shipment Picked Up" — What It Means
What It Means
"Shipment picked up" is the first real scan in DHL's tracking system. It means a DHL driver has physically collected the package from the sender's location and loaded it onto the vehicle. This scan is generated at the point of collection, confirming DHL has taken physical possession of the shipment.
Before this status, you may see 'Shipment information received' — which only means the sender created a label, not that DHL has the package. 'Shipment picked up' confirms the package has left the sender and is in DHL's network.
After pickup, the package typically goes to a local DHL Service Point or depot for sorting before moving to a hub. The next scan usually appears within a few hours to overnight as the package enters the DHL processing network.
What To Do Next
- 1No action needed — this status confirms DHL has the package and it's moving normally
- 2Check back in 12–24 hours for the next transit scan as the package enters DHL's sorting network
- 3Save your DHL waybill number (the tracking number) for future reference — you'll need it for any inquiries
- 4If you're the sender and 'picked up' never appeared after a scheduled collection, contact DHL to confirm the driver completed the pickup
