USPS "Pre-Shipment Info Sent" — What This Means

Typical duration
A few hours to 2-3 business days before Acceptance scan
Normal range
Transitions to 'Acceptance' within 1-2 business days of label creation
When to worry
Stuck on this status for 5+ business days with no Acceptance scan

What It Means

"Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS" (sometimes shown as 'USPS Awaiting Item') means the sender created a shipping label and transmitted the package data to USPS — but USPS has not yet physically received the package. The label exists in the system; the box does not.

This is effectively the same status as 'Shipping Label Created' but is the newer phrasing used by eBay, Etsy, and other platforms. The package will only start moving when the sender drops it off at a post office, hands it to a carrier during pickup, or deposits it in a blue collection box.

What To Do Next

  • 1Wait 1-2 business days — most labels transition to Acceptance within that window once dropped off.
  • 2Check with the sender if they've actually dropped the package off yet.
  • 3If the sender shipped it and there's no Acceptance scan after 3+ business days, USPS may have failed to scan at drop-off — the package is still moving even without the scan.
  • 4For buyer-protection purposes: on eBay/Etsy, wait 5+ business days past the stated handling time before opening a case.
