What It Means

"Acceptance" is USPS's first physical scan after a sender drops off or hands over a package. It means a USPS clerk or mail carrier scanned the package barcode and took custody — the package is officially in the USPS system and will now move through the network toward the destination.

This status replaces the earlier 'Shipping Label Created' status, which only indicates the sender printed a label but USPS hadn't yet received the package. Once you see 'Acceptance,' the package is no longer sitting in the sender's hands.

What To Do Next

  • 1Nothing — this is a positive update. The package is officially in USPS's care.
  • 2Expect the next scan within 12-48 hours, showing 'In Transit' or 'Arrived at Regional Facility.'
  • 3If stuck on Acceptance for 3+ business days, contact the sender to verify the drop-off was completed properly.
  • 4If tracking hasn't updated in 5+ business days, submit a Missing Mail Search.
