How to Redirect a FedEx Package
FedEx Delivery Manager (FDM) allows recipients to redirect packages to a new address, a FedEx location, or a FedEx Retail Connect pickup spot before delivery. Senders can request reroutes through FedEx Ship Manager or Customer Service. Fees apply for redirects to new addresses; redirects to a nearby FedEx Hold location are often free for FedEx Delivery Manager members. Act before the package reaches the destination facility — once it's on the delivery vehicle, rerouting is no longer possible.
Step-by-step
- 1
Set up FedEx Delivery Manager (for recipients)
Go to fedex.com/en-us/delivery-manager.html. Sign up for a free account with your home address. FDM gives you visibility and control over all incoming FedEx packages to your address — you can redirect, hold, or reschedule before the driver attempts delivery.
- 2
Track the package and access Manage Delivery
Track the package at fedex.com/tracking. If FedEx Delivery Manager options are available, you'll see a 'Manage Delivery' button. Click it and select 'Edit Delivery Address' or 'Hold at FedEx Location.'
- 3
Redirect to a new address
Enter the new delivery address. FedEx calculates any additional postage for a different zone. Fee: typically $15–$20 for address changes depending on service type. Submit and FedEx reroutes the package to the new address.
- 4
Redirect to a FedEx Hold location (often free)
Select 'Hold at FedEx Location' and choose a nearby FedEx Office, Walgreens, Albertsons, or other Retail Connect location. FedEx Delivery Manager members can often do this for free — no address change fee. The package is held for up to 7 days for pickup with ID.
- 5
For senders: call FedEx or use Ship Manager
If you're the sender and need to reroute: call 1-800-463-3339 with the tracking number. FedEx Customer Service can submit an Address Correction or reroute request. Fees apply and success depends on current package location in the network.
Good to know
- •FedEx Delivery Manager redirect is only available in the US for domestic shipments — international redirects require a call to FedEx Customer Service.
- •FedEx Hold at Location is limited to 7 calendar days. If not picked up within that window, FedEx attempts delivery or returns to sender.
- •FedEx packages at Hold locations require government-issued photo ID matching the name on the label.
