Cover the painted surface with glassine paper (acid-free, available at art supply stores) before any other wrapping
Wrap stretched canvas in bubble wrap with the bubble side facing away from the paint surface
Use corner protectors (cardboard or foam) on all four corners of framed paintings
Build a custom telescoping box or use mirror/picture boxes for large paintings — never force a large painting into a small box
