How to Ship Alcohol: Legal Requirements & Packaging

Alcohol is one of the most legally complex items to ship in the US. USPS prohibits all alcohol shipments entirely. UPS and FedEx allow alcohol shipments but require shipper agreements, state licensing, and adult signature at delivery — and some states prohibit direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping entirely.

Shipping Tips for Alcohol (Beer, Wine & Spirits)

USPS prohibits all alcohol shipments — beer, wine, and spirits can only be shipped via UPS or FedEx with proper agreements
You must have a signed UPS or FedEx alcohol shipping agreement before shipping — walk-in shipping of alcohol is not permitted
Adult signature (21+) is required on all alcohol deliveries — select Adult Signature Required when creating the label
Check destination state laws — some states (Utah, Mississippi, and others) prohibit direct-to-consumer alcohol shipments entirely
Use wine shippers (foam or pulp inserts sized for wine bottles) for bottles — they prevent breakage and leakage better than generic foam
