Energy drinks are usually carbonated liquid in aluminum cans, and both of those facts create shipping risks that still water doesn't. Carbonation means the can is already under internal pressure, and anything that raises that pressure — heat especially — pushes it toward bulging, seam failure, and rupture. Freezing is the mirror danger and the more surprising one. Carbonated liquid expands as it freezes, and a frozen can doesn't just chill the drink — it can split the can or blow the top as the contents expand past the container's capacity. So energy drinks have a temperature window at both ends: don't let them cook and don't let them freeze. Ship with the weather in mind, avoid tendering into extreme heat or a hard freeze when you can, and understand that the can you packed intact can arrive burst purely from the temperature it passed through, with no impact at all.

Weigh the packed box and quote the real lane; sellers underprice beverage shipping constantly because a case reads heavier on the scale than it looks. The density also means the box must be structural: a heavy case in a weak carton bursts a seam, and the loose cans then rattle and dent.
Denting is the cosmetic failure that still triggers refunds. Cans that shift and knock against each other or the box wall arrive dented, and a dented energy drink reads as damaged even when it's perfectly sealed. Keep cans in their retail multipack where possible (the packaging is designed to hold them), immobilize the whole unit so it can't shift, and cushion the box so nothing presses on the cans. Double-wall corrugated for heavier cases, reinforced seams, and enough fill that the load can't surge — the same discipline any dense, heavy, leak-capable product demands.
Caffeine, Stimulants, and Crossing Borders
Energy drinks carry an international-shipping complication that ordinary soft drinks don't: caffeine content and added stimulants. High-caffeine energy products, and anything with additional stimulant or 'functional' ingredients (guarana, taurine at high levels, and various proprietary blends), face restrictions in a number of countries — some cap caffeine per serving, some restrict specific ingredients, and some regulate energy drinks as a distinct category. A product that's an ordinary US convenience-store purchase can be restricted or seized at a foreign border.
So before shipping energy drinks internationally, check the destination country's rules for caffeine limits and the specific ingredients, and expect that some products can't go. Declare contents honestly on customs forms — beverages are also often just impractical to ship internationally on weight and cost grounds, quite apart from the ingredient rules. Domestically there's no such restriction, but the weight and temperature realities remain, which is why energy drinks mostly move as heavy domestic ground shipments rather than international ones.
Selling Beverages: Dates, Leak Defense, and When Not to Bother
Beverages have expiration dates and buyers check them, so ship product with clear, in-date coding and don't move anything close to or past its date. Because the whole risk profile is leak-and-burst, the containment discipline matters even though these aren't glass: bag or line the box so a failed can is contained rather than soaking the packaging, mark the box to keep it upright, and pack so pressure and impact can't compromise a can. A single leaked can that ruins the rest of the case is the characteristic energy-drink shipping loss.
The honest strategic note: energy drinks are heavy, pressure-sensitive, temperature-sensitive, and low-value per unit, which makes them one of the less rewarding things to ship long distances. Local sale and pickup often make more sense for cases, and specialty or hard-to-find flavors are where shipping actually pays — a rare or imported variant a buyer can't get locally justifies the freight in a way a mainstream case doesn't. When you do ship, respect the temperature window, build the box for the weight, contain the leak risk, and mind the border on caffeine: that's the full method for a deceptively demanding product.
