How to Void a UPS Shipping Label

To void a UPS label you made on ups.com, open your Shipping History, click the three-dot menu next to the shipment and choose Void. A red dot then shows in the Voided column. UPS lets you do this yourself for 90 days after you create the label. From 90 to 180 days you must contact UPS to ask for the void. After 180 days, UPS will not process a void. Voiding is for packages that have not shipped. If you bought the label through another site, such as a marketplace or shipping app, void it there. That site paid UPS for the label, so the refund comes back through it.

Find the shipment in your history
Log in to ups.com and open your Shipping History. Shipments only show under the UPS login that created them. If you don't see it, try the other account, or the site where you bought the label.

Open the Action menu and choose Void
Click the vertical three-dot icon next to the shipment and select 'Void'. On UPS CampusShip, open the Shipping tab first, then use the same three-dot menu.

Check for the red dot
When the void works, a red dot appears next to the package in the Voided column. Then throw away or shred the printed label, so it can't end up on a box by mistake.

Older than 90 days? Contact UPS
Labels created more than 90 days ago can't be voided in the tool. Use UPS's Email Us or Contact Us options and give the tracking number. UPS will not process a void after 180 days.

Good to know

•WorldShip: select 'Void' at the top of the main shipping screen, pick the package from the pickup log, then select 'Void' again.
•WorldShip after end-of-day: selecting 'Void' a second time sends you to the ups.com void tool to finish. WorldShip won't mark these as voided by itself, so mark them by hand in the pickup log.
•Labels bought on a marketplace or shipping app (for example eBay, Etsy or a multi-carrier tool) are voided in that app, not on ups.com.
•A return label someone else sent you belongs to them. Ask the sender to cancel it.

Do UPS labels expire?

UPS does not publish one expiry date for every label on its void page. What UPS does publish is the void limit: 90 days to void it yourself, and no voids after 180 days. Shipping sites disagree on how long an unused UPS label stays valid, with answers from 30 days to six months. So the safe rule is simple: ship within a few days of printing, or void it and make a new one.

Return labels are different. A store that sends you a UPS return label often sets its own deadline for the return. Check the email or the return instructions for that date. If it has passed, ask the store for a new label rather than using the old one.

What happens after you void a UPS label

The shipment shows a red dot in the Voided column of your Shipping History.
The label should no longer be used. Destroy the printout so it doesn't get stuck on a box.
If the label is still on your UPS bill later, contact UPS billing with the tracking number.
If you bought the label through another site, that site handles the refund.

Already handed the package to UPS?

UPS's void tool is for packages that have not shipped. Once UPS has scanned the package, voiding is the wrong tool. Contact UPS about stopping or returning it, or wait for delivery and arrange a return with the receiver.
