Many species are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, CITES, or state regulations, and shipping mounts or hides of these species requires documentation. Beyond the legal side, taxidermy is fragile — antlers, feathers, and glass eyes require expert packing.

Shipping Tips for Taxidermy & Animal Mounts

Check USWS (US Fish & Wildlife Service) regulations before shipping any taxidermy — migratory birds, certain mammals, and CITES species require permits
Wrap antlers, horns, and protruding features in multiple layers of bubble wrap and support with foam blocks to prevent pressure breaks
Use a rigid wooden crate for large mounts (deer shoulder mounts, full-body mounts) — cardboard boxes cannot safely support these items
Feathers and hair on mounts can be flattened by pressure; stuff gaps around the mount with crumpled tissue paper to maintain shape
For fish mounts and flat wall plaques, ship in a flat box with foam rails along the edges to prevent mounting hardware from damaging the mount
