Empty and clean the pen of ink before shipping — pressure changes in air transit can cause filled pens to leak extensively
Wrap the nib section (the narrow tip) in a separate layer of tissue or foam — nib damage is irreversible on many vintage pens
Ship vintage and collectible pens in a rigid box, not a padded mailer — pen barrels can crack under mailer pressure
